Sakhir, Bahrain – The Aston Martin Formula 1 team secured a podium finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix, with driver Fernando Alonso claiming third place in a closely contested race. The result marks a strong start to the season for the team, which is looking to build on its success from last year.
Alonso, who started the race from fifth on the grid, put up a strong performance, showing impressive pace and tire management throughout the race. He battled it out with drivers from Mercedes, Red Bull Racing, and McLaren, eventually crossing the finish line just behind race winner Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing and runner-up Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Speaking after the race, Stroll expressed his delight at the podium finish, saying, “It’s a great result for the team. We had a strong race and were able to fight for the podium from the start. The car felt really good, and I was able to manage the tires well, which made a big difference. I’m really happy to bring home a trophy for the team.”
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack praised Stroll for his performance, saying, “Lance drove a fantastic race today. He showed great pace and skill, and he was able to hold off some tough competition to secure a solid points finish. It’s a great start to the season for us, and we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved today.”
The result marks Aston Martin’s first podium finish since the team rebranded from Racing Point ahead of the 2021 season. The team will be looking to build on this success as the season progresses, with Stroll and teammate Sebastian Vettel both eager to challenge for more podiums and potentially even race wins.
The Bahrain Grand Prix also saw a strong performance from McLaren, with Lando Norris finishing in fourth place and his teammate Daniel Ricciardo in seventh. The Mercedes team, meanwhile, struggled to match the pace of Red Bull Racing, with Valtteri Bottas finishing in fifth place and Hamilton in second.
The next race on the Formula 1 calendar is the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which will take place on April 16-18 at the Imola circuit in Italy. Aston Martin and the rest of the field will be looking to build on their performances in Bahrain and stake their claim for the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship.
